PredictWind Brings Weather Insight to the RORC Griffin Pathway

RORC Cowes Clubhouse (Tuesday 04 August) - RORC Griffin Pathway sailors were given a practical introduction to PredictWind during the RORC Crew Party at RORC Cowes, held during North Sails Cowes Week in support of the Griffin Pathway Project.

PredictWind weather expert Lisa McDonald demonstrated how the platform can be used to compare forecast models, interpret developing weather and support tactical decision-making. Using live displays and practical examples, she showed how sailors can assess wind strength, direction, timing and uncertainty before applying that information on the water.

For the young sailors involved, the session provided a valuable link between weather data and offshore performance. Decisions made several hours in advance can have a major influence on a boat’s route and result, making accurate interpretation of the forecast an essential racing skill.

The demonstration formed part of a lively evening at RORC Cowes, where sailors, members and supporters gathered for the Crew Party. The event was held in aid of the RORC Griffin Pathway Project, which creates opportunities for young sailors to develop their skills and gain experience in competitive offshore racing.

PredictWind is supporting the 2026 RORC Round Britain and Ireland Race, which starts from Cowes on Sunday 09 August. Weather analysis will be central to the 1,805-nautical-mile non-stop race, as competitors negotiate the tidal waters of the English Channel, the exposed west coast of Ireland, the Atlantic approaches to St Kilda and Muckle Flugga, and the complex final stages through the North Sea.

The winner of the PredictWind prize draw has also been announced as Sam White, who will race the JPK 1180 Mzungu! double-handed in the Round Britain and Ireland Race.

The prize includes a PredictWind DataHub Pro, an NMEA connection cable and a one-year PredictWind Professional subscription, giving White and his co-skipper valuable access to advanced weather data, routing and onboard connectivity as they prepare for one of the toughest offshore races in world sailing.
